A tic can be a very fast and a sudden movement of muscle. Tic Disorder can be seen in people in all age groups. The disorder is under study. But the severity of the disorder in not high in many cases.
In Tic Disorder, no cure and medication work equally for each individual. The result in each type of treatment is different. Majority of sufferers of this Disorder avoid medication, but help is needed when symptoms interfere with everyday work.
Two things are considered during the treatment of Tic Disorder:

- Treatment of conditions which cause tic,
Most commonly used medications are:
- Neuroleptics
- Antihypertensive agents
- Clonidine
- Guanfacine
- Guanfacine
- Atomoxetine
- Tricyclics
- Clomipramine
- tricyclic antidepressant
- Antidepressants including fluoxetine, sertraline and fluvoxamine
Non-medical Methods Used to Treat Tic Disorder:
Habit Reversal Training (HRT): It involves increasing the tic awareness to develop motivation and determination to fight tic.
Massed Negative Practice (MNP): This is a proposed tic treatment where the sufferer practices tics until he becomes tired.
Biofeedback: This technique involves measuring the major body functions like blood pressure level, heart beat, temperature, activities of glands (organs that produce hormones or other body liquids), muscle activity, passing signals to patients in time. This raises the patient’s awareness and therefore the possibility of conscious control of those functions.
Hypnosis This procedure refers in achieving a particular mental state by following a series of instructions in presence of a Hypnotist (a professional who practises Hypnosis).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) It is an approach to solve problems concerning abnormal emotions, behaviors through a systematic procedure.
Acupuncture In this process a special kind of a needle is inserted into the body at various pre-determined points.
Alternative Medicine It is any kind of a healing practice based on a belief but different from the general medication pattern. It includes- Unani, Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Meditation, Chiropractic, Herbalism, Yoga, Biofeedback, Hypnosis, Diet-based Therapies, Homeopathy and Acupuncture
