One of the major reasons for the development of speech impairment in children is weak muscular co-ordination inn the mouth region. The muscles in the mouth have to be exercised thoroughly in order to make them strong.
Sometimes kids can have a hindrance in the development of the muscular part of the tongue region. As the tongue forms the basis for speaking, weak muscular coordination in it can cause a hindrance in the speech.
But this condition can certainly be improved by practising some oral mouth exercises. Let’s look into some of the oral mouth exercises that can help in strengthening the muscles in the mouth.
Blowing bubbles:
Kids do not posses a high standard of breathing, so simple exercises such as blowing bubbles can give sufficient exercise to the mouth and tongue region and also helps in having a better breath control.
Licking cream or butter placed on the palate:
For exercising the tongue one can place some peanut butter or some cream on the surface of the palate or just behind the front teeth. And then help the kid to practise licking it. This can give the tongue region a thorough exercise.
Practise making faces:
By learning to make faces the muscles in the entire face region, lips and the cheek bones get a thorough exercise. One can make the kids to practise this exercise in front of a mirror. This simple exercise can give a good amount of exercise to the muscles in the mouth.
Rolling a lollipop in the mouth:
Another exercise that can give a good exercise to the tongue is rolling a lollipop or any peppermint from one side of the mouth to the other side. This can be done by twisting the tongue from one side to the other. This exercise helps in better movement of the tongue.
