Breathing plays a major role in improving the quality of speech and fluency in any person. By practising proper breathing methods and techniques a person can develop a control over his speech.
Some of the breathing methods that can be followed for the developing fluency are:
A person can start the process of breathing by feeling his in breath and out breath. To do this place one hand on your belly and begin to feel the expansion of it while inhaling and lowering of it while exhaling.
Try to feel the expansion and contraction of the tummy as you inhale and exhale. This type of breathing is known as diaphragmatic breathing.
The next method of breathing is breathing through the upper chest. Here the upper chest region or the thoracic cavity is used for the breathing.
Take a long breath expanding the chest muscles as much as possible. After the lungs are completely filled with the oxygen to the maximum, release the air slowly by compressing the chest muscles. Once the air from the lungs is released out take another breath immediately.
The breaths have to be taken in rapid succession. One can switch between the diaphragmatic breathing and the chest breathing in an alternative manner.
The thoracic breathing or the chest breathing can help us in increasing the lung capacity. It can also increase the physical exertion on the lungs. Thoracic breathing also helps in improve vocal and verbal abilities of a person.
The diaphragmatic breathing can help a person to relax, as sometimes peoples can get nervous while speaking. This can break the fluency in a person. Practising the diaphragmatic breathing can ease the stress and nervousness in a person, helping him to be in a better state of mind and speech.
One can start speaking while practising diaphragmatic breathing. Anything you want to say, saying it along with practising the diaphragmatic breathing may help to better the speech.
