Scars in the lung are permanent and are cannot be removed usually. It falls in the classification of diseases referred to as interstitial lung disease. Typically, this happens over a period of time and sometimes idiopathic. But it has several signs and symptoms that affects the respiratory system.
Symptoms of Lung Scarring:
Lung scarring symptoms may include:
- Cough: Most people suffering from lung scarring begin to develop dry and unproductive cough, that is, cough does not produce phlegm or sputum. Cough starts as a minor symptoms and gradually worsens as the scarring progresses.
- Breathlessness: This is the most common symptom of lung scarring that involves some levels of windiness, shortness of breath or breathlessness. Usually, this symptoms starts as a slight breathlessness during the initial scarring and progressively worsens as the scarring progresses unless shortness of breath is experienced.
- Pain: In some cases, lung scarring brings some pain and discomfort around the chest region. This pain is felt in during the times of rest or during exertion, but generally felt within lungs while inhaling or exhaling air.
- Wheezing: Coughing and breathlessness is associated with certain amount of wheezing. This manifests at the times of rest or during physical exertion. This can occur while talking to someone casually and simply climbing in and out of car.
- Exhaustion: According to the studies, lung scarring brings almost an overwhelming feeling of tiredness. This is due to the way lungs work as a result of scarring. Inevitably, oxygen levels in the blood will lower and prompts more and more exhaustion or tiredness.
- Clubbing: Lung scarring symptoms can also be observed in the form of clubbing to finger tips. This appears as bulbous developments to the tips of the fingers. In the initial days, one can notice change in hands appearance, overtime clubbing becomes more pronounced and noticeable.
- Weight Loss: Person suffering from scars in lungs notice weight loss. This scarring makes an individual feel malaise, that prompts appetite loss. Obviously, loss in appetite spawns weight loss in individuals.
