Common intestinal tuberculosis symptoms include persistent cough, which lasts for more than 3 weeks, tiredness in the body, general weakness, night sweats, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, chest pains, fever, etc. Pregnant women should be careful with their immune system as TB has a risk of transmitting from mother to the child. Symptoms then appear in the child in the first year itself with fever, breathing problems, feeding problems, etc. TB may also be transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person when an infected person sneezes, coughs out, sits together and coming in physical contact.
How to Cure Intestinal Tuberculosis?
- First confirm whether you are suffering from this condition. Consult the health care provider and he will perform CT scan, X-ray and a blood test for confirming the condition. Physician develops a treatment plan according to the stage of the disease.
- Physician may prescribe antibiotics. The bacteria which leads to TB may take a long period to grow and hence one has to take antibiotics for several months. Usually, treatment is administered until the symptoms get cured. If an infected person stops taking the medications with out completing the course, the condition may revert back. Physician may also prescribe two different antibiotics that are very effective.
- Be aware about the side effects of medicines. A few antibiotics which are used in treating intestinal tuberculosis may have severe side effects like liver damage. If you notice any side effects, report to the physician.
- If symptoms persist, consult the doctor. If you notice the symptoms even after completing the course of antibiotics, ensure to consult the doctor immediately. Internal bleeding or obstruction in the intestines may occur in severe cases.
