Chest congestion leads to discomfort and may also be annoying. In some cases, congestion may become severe and have a frightening effect on people. There are several causes that chest congestion. Treatment should be opted depending on the underlying cause. But, the treatment should be given as early as possible. It is easy to cure, if the medical attention is taken immediately. It leads to chest pain, if the condition aggravates.
Causes of Chest Congestion:
Several reasons cause chest congestion. These may range from mild to severe. Many suffer from chest congestion in the rainy and winter seasons. During these seasons, the atmosphere is conducive for mucus development. Mucus is mainly caused due to presence of irritants that exist in the air in these seasons. Pollens also cause chest congestion.
Flu and common cold are some of the reasons of chest congestion. Allergies also cause chest congestion. These medical conditions cause cough. Some times, disorders runny nose, chills and fever accompany with cough. Chronic coughing causes windpipe infection. These problems lead to chest congestion. Some chronic conditions, such as heart ache and infection, etc. also cause chest congestion.
Remedies for Chest Congestion:
- This condition is because of presence of sputum in sinuses, chest and throat. Take a shower bath with hot water for loosening sputum. This gives relief from chest congestion. This is the most easiest treatment and helps to alleviate the situation. This treatment works like a decongestants and is an appropriate treatment for infants. Consult the health care provider after choosing this treatment.
- Consume more fluids. This also helps to relieve chest congestion. Drink plenty of fruit juices, but ensure that water are not cold. If water is cold, the situation aggravates instead of alleviating.
- Boil water until steam develops. Make sure that this steam reaches the throat and face. This also works as a decongestant. Else, dip cloth in hot water and place it on chest and face. Before placing cloth on face and throat, touch it and check the temperature of the cloth. Repeat the process for few minutes.
- Consume hot beverages, such as hot water, coffee, tea, etc. Before sipping tea, take a deep breath of the steam. This relieves congestion. Avoid dairy products during this condition.
