Viral bronchitis is more common than the bacterial bronchitis. Bronchitis is a respiratory disorder. Both bacterial and viral bronchitis are considered as serious problems because, these are respiratory disorders caused by certain bacteria or virus. In viral bronchitis, infection of lungs leads to inflammation of bronchial tube lining that are airways in lungs. Acute bronchitis lasts for few days and can be cured on its own. Medical attention is required if the disease persists for more than a week. Chronic bronchitis lasts for few months.
Symptoms of Viral Bronchitis:
Viral bronchitis symptoms include:
- Sore throat
- Common cold
- Dyspnea or shortness of breath
- Wheezing
- Chest tightness and congestion
- Excessive secretion of mucus
- Soreness in chest that feels like burning sensation or constriction
- Cough that develops sputum that is yellowish-gray or green in color
- Headache and body pains
- Fever
Fumes, smoke and smoking and inhaling irritating dust aggravates the situation. This develops into pneumonia if left untreated.
Treatment for Viral Bronchitis:
- Viral bronchitis cannot be treated with antibiotics. Supportive measures can be used to relieve the symptoms. Drink more fluids or warm liquids to relieve chest and throat pain. Coffee, hot soups, warm water and tea are excellent remedies for viral bronchitis. These helps to flush out mucus quicker.
- Grind a small piece of ginger, 2 – 3 cloves, 2 tablespoons of pepper and also 1 tablespoon of honey. Take this mixture 3 – 4 times in a day.
- Yarrow and marshmallow are some useful herbs for curing viral bronchitis.
- Take 1 tablespoon of onion juice daily in the mornings. This gives relief from congestion and cough.
- Take snacks and healthy foods to overcome the fatigue and weakness.
- Massage with garlic oil on the chest to get relief from the pain and itchy sensation.
- Prepare herbal tea with cinnamon, bay leaves, clove, ginger or lemon grass. These are efficient in treating viral bronchitis. These also helps in regaining the energy.
