Incubation period refers to the duration that a person is exposed to an infection causing bacteria, until the symptoms develop in a person. Strep throat incubation period may differ from each case, but, usually it is nearly three days. Also, it can be either 2 – 5 days. However in some cases, incubation period is reported for about 8 days. If you want to know whether strep throat is contagious? Then I would say it is contagious. Once the symptoms start appearing, strep throat infection is contagious for at least 24 hours, if you are not using prescribed medications.
Symptoms of Strep Throat:
As discussed earlier, symptoms start developing during the incubation period, but not suddenly. Strep throat infection symptoms include:
- Peeling of the skin on feet and hands
- Ear pain
- Chills
- Rashes
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting and nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Uneasiness, feeling ill, general discomfort and malaise
- High fever
- Headache
- Difficulty in swallowing
- White spots on the tonsils
- Inflamed tonsils
Though, above mentioned symptoms are common, it is not necessary that these appear in all strep throat cases.
