A sore throat causes bad breath due to many reasons and one of the main reasons is because of sinus. The person suffering from sinus cannot breathe properly which causes the mouth to dry leading to bad breath. Since the mouth gets dried, the bacteria and germs get stuck to the skin inside the mouth.

Bad breath is also caused due problems like post nasal drip, mucous in the throat or persistent sinus infection. In such cases sore throat causes bad breath because the person suffering from this tend to breathe through the mouth drying the inside of it.
Bad breath usually originates in the mouth at the back of the tongue and this smell is caused due to sulfur compounds. They are produced by the bacteria living in the mouth and they break down the proteins from the nutrients. This bacteria live on the tongue, between the teeth, at the back of the mouth. They also live in the gum cervices if the person is suffering from gum cancer.
Bad breath coming from the throat may be due to several reasons. One of the main reasons is that when the sinus drainage and the tears drain into the throat. It is very high at the back of the mouth causing an infection or a blockage in the sinuses. The blockage in the sinuses causes the odor which eventually leads to the bad breath. This condition is temporary and can be treated.

The air from the lungs moves through the throat and sometimes the trapped air from the stomach is dislodged through the throat. This problem gets serious when bad odor emerges from the throat and a doctor should be consulted immediately.

- Bad breath during sore throat cannot be cured by brushing or flossing your teeth. One should make sure that they follow proper oral hygiene.
- Always make sure that your body is hydrated because this helps in healing this problem easily.
- Rinse your mouth regularly before and after eating anything. Rinsing helps in clear the bacteria lingering in the mouth.
