The alcohol content in the breath can be found with the an alcohol testing equipment known as the Breathalyzer. It also known as the Breathalyser. R.F. Broken stein invented an instrument that used chemical oxidation and photometry to know the alcohol concentration and Breathalyzer was originated from this. It was introduced originally in the year 1954 and is widely being used for the past 20 years.
Breath Alcohol Concentration(BAC):
Breath alcohol concentration is used to find out the amount of alcohol present in the blood stream or in the breath. BAC is usually found by the weight of the ethanol which is measured in grams, that is present in 100ml of blood or 210 liters of breath. Breath alcohol concentration can be found out by conducting the breath, blood and urine tests. It is used to measure the accurate levels of alcohol in a persons breath.
Uses of BAC:
Using breath alcohol concentration, one can find out how much alcohol has been drunk and how fast a person can drink. The BAC rate will be higher if the alcohol drinking speed is quick, that means it all depends on the speed at which the alcohol is consumed. Alcohol is consumed and is absorbed slowly when a person eats heavily. When alcohol is consumed on an empty stomach it can increase the BAC, because the alcohol cannot be diluted when there is no food.
Carbonated beverages may increase the absorption process, while fruit juices and water may slow the process of absorption. Usually women reach higher BAC levels faster since they have very less amount of water in their bodies. The alcohol cannot penetrate easily into the fat, which is present in large amounts in a woman’s body. The breath alcohol concentration levels will be higher in women than in men.
