Bad breath or halitosis usually originates in the mouth, especially at the back of the tongue. If a person is sensing bad breath in the throat air, then it is not the problem of halitosis. The rotten egg smell that associates with halitosis is the smell produced by the sulfur compounds. The bacteria inside the mouth produces these sulfur compounds and they break down the proteins for nutrients.
This bacteria particularly lives on the tongue and at the back of the mouth. They are even found between the teeth, gum cervices and the throat area. Bad breath can be caused due to the sinus drainage and the tears that drain down into the throat high. This blockage and infection in the sinuses may cause an unpleasant odor which is nothing but bad breath in the throat.
