Weed is an illicit drug. It is widely used and abused by many all over the world and is, in fact, one of the most widely abused drug. It is known by many other names like marijuana, pot, grass and many others. Different parts of the plant like leaf, flowers, stems and seeds are dried or processed and used a drug either by chewing, smoking or even brewing as a tea.
What can smoking weed do to your body?
Although weed is one of the milder drugs, it is still very potent and addictive. It affects not only the body but also the brain, the mind. There are many immediate as well as long term and long lasting effects that weed has on the body.
Immediate effects
- Bloodshot eyes
- Dry mouth
- Lack of control over body movements and co-ordination
- Sudden panic attacks
Longterm effects
- Chronic lethargy and sleeplessness
- Emphysema
- Loss of appetite
- Irritability
Of these some of the effects are physiological while some others are either psychological or emotional in nature.
The physiological effects are almost immediate as you can see the person is on a high. Bloodshot eyes, imbalanced walk, slurred or unclear speech and a general lack of clarity with everything around. The more long term effects are loss of appetite and sudden or excessive loss of weight, lethargic personality and a tendency to be spaced out.
The psychological effects are, on the other hand, both immediate as well as long term. Lack of co-ordination in body movements starts off as an immediate effect but shows up as a long term effect in general chronic lethargy and listlessness. This dull state causes the individual to be almost always irritable. Weed also affects memory and learning abilities to some extent.
It is best to stay away from weed. If you are already an addict, there are many ways by which you can quit. There are also many rehabilitation and counseling centers where addicts can recover from the addiction and lead a healthier life.

this article is horse shit.
marijuana causes some physical impairment, but not nearly as significant as the results of drinking alcohol. also, at least people who smoke marijuana KNOW they’re affected, unlike drinkers.
SOME people get nervous/paranoid when they smoke. others get relaxed. i feel very relaxed. marijuana can treat anxiety, while this article, as well as our government, would have you think it only causes it.
marijuana does not cause chronic lethargy. it’s a case of correlation, not causation. sure, many lazy people enjoy marijuana. but smoking it doesn’t turn you into one. it motivates me actually. when i smoke i organize my house and do laundry & wash my car, etc. or write music.
it also helps people sleep, not keep them from sleeping. this is terrible information.
emphysema, well, yes if you smoke it. marijuana can also be vaporized. you can get a vaporizer for about $60. instead of smoking, it is simply turned into steam. there are no carcinogens or other harmful agents passed into the body.
loss of appetite? that’s a good one. ever heard of the munchies? marijuana has been proven to increase one’s appetite. this is extremely valuable to AIDS patients.
irritability? that’s another complete lie. if anything marijuana mellows people out. it would REMOVE any irritability.
I disagree with the above completely, since i quit after smoking solid for about 14 years i barely eat anything, it actually makes me feel sick at times whilst i eat.
When it comes to sleeping, i toss and turn for most of the night and when i do get to sleep i wake up in sweats.
If you dont smoke it as much as i did then maybe these effects are less apparent, i only wish i still had the positive effects from mild smoking than what i feel like at the moment.
Long term effects are not good.
