What is urological cancer?
Urological cancer refers to cancers that affect the bladder, kidney, prostrate, penis or testicles. All these cancers are extremely painful and should be treated as soon as possible without delay or neglect to prevent complications. Each one of these has a number of causes and symptoms, ranging from weight loss to muscle spasms to rashes on the skin. Smoking, if not the primary one, is one of the causes for all of these cancers.
Smoking and urological cancer
There has been a constant debate about the link between smoking tobacco and urological cancer. But researches and studies have made it more and more clear that they are clearly interconnected and that smoking can lead to this form of cancer as well, among others.
Among all other forms of urological cancer, bladder cancer seems to be the one that is seen most commonly in smokers. Although it is not yet completely clear as to how smoking causes this cancer, it is suspected that it interferes with the normal synthesis of the protein cytoprotective eicosanoids. This exposes soft sensitive tissues in that area to acidic urine which makes them weak and damaged. This then encourages the carcinogenic reactions as a defense mechanism of the body to make up for the sudden excessive loss of cells.
Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer that affects people all over the world. Smoking increases the risk of this cancer multiple times.
Another very important effect that smoking has is on the penis. It causes cancer of the penis. But along with this, it can lead to erectile dysfunction. It can also cause a reduction in sperm count and lead to impotency. Smoking tobacco also leads to the other forms of urological cancer like prostate, kidney and testicular cancers.
This is why it is best to stay away from smoking and tobacco in all forms. If you are already a smoker, it is important to know that it is never very late to quit as quitting is known to reduce the health effects of smoking substantially over time.
