There is no known cause for this acute fatty liver of pregnancy but abnormality and fatty acid metabolism can be associated.Earlier it was fatal but now there are number of ways in which this disease can be cured. Both the mother and the child can be saved.
Causes of Acute Fatty Liver Of Pregnancy:-
- Excessive intake of alcohol, overdose of certain medication like paracetamol or acetaminophen and hepatitis A or B can lead to Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy.
- A fatty liver during pregnancy can even cause liver failure.
- It occur mostly in the last trimester of the pregnancy period.
- In some cases,Reye’s syndrome has also been observed in children who intake aspirin when suffering from virus infection. Thus leading to failure in the liver.
- Infants under such situation need continuous hospitalization for several months. The child can be immature . It is also possible for the children to suffer from some side effects.
Symptoms of Acute Fatty Liver Of Pregnancy:-
- Jaundice,bleeding,fatigue and easy bruising are some of the common symptoms of acute fatty liver.
- It becomes very important for a person to undergo through right diagnosis in order to prevent the disease.
- Though the cause is the main factor but there are many different ways of evaluating the disease.
Treatment for Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy:-
- A person can undergo for ammonia,HIV,hepatitis, blood test,pregnancy and toxicology tests in order to find out whether he/she is suffering fromacute fatty liver of pregnancy or not.
- The test will find out about the liver enzymes, amount of paracetamol present, sodium,potassium and magnesium. After determining that the person is having acute fatty liver, then she must go for a treatment immediately.
- Proper nutritious food, intake of fluids and dialysis are the effective treatment. If the person is not responding to these treatment,then she can go for a liver transplant.
