    Obesity link to Diabetes Originates in White Blood Cells

    A new study conducted by Australian researchers discovered that white blood cells, which are responsible foe inflammation in the fat tissue, may reveal why Type 2 diabetes usually occurs in overweight people. Read on to know more about how obesity is linked to diabetes that originates in the white blood cell.

    The adverse condition of obesity costs the Americans nearly around $150 billion annually from other associated diseases. This vital statistics figures ere disclosed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a report published this month.

    About the Study
    Researchers at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne analyzed fat tissue collected from nearly more than 100 obese and lean patients. Their studies found the first evidence that in humans, the white blood cells originating from the bone marrow located in the fat tissue, initiates a process which leads to diabetes.

    These white blood cells are known as macrophages which produce chemical molecules that act as messengers in the body. These chemical messengers are known as cytokines which results cells to become resistant to insulin.

    The Study Findings
    The research findings were published in the medical journal, Diabetes. These findings paves a new avenue for novel anti-inflammatory treatments which prevent resistance to insulin. Also, other medical complications associated with the condition of obesity can be treated by anti-inflammatory medicines.

    This study also revealed that when overweight or obese people lose their excess body mass, the macrophages located in the fat tissue started disappearing. Also, their risk of acquiring diabetes and developing resistance towards insulin started to subsidies.

    A Few Facts About Diabetes
    This condition strikes the body when sufficient amount or proper usage of insulin does not take place. This hormone, insulin, is useful in converting starches, sugar and other food into energy. Around 80% of patients suffering from Type 2 diabetes are overweight. This form of diabetes is the most common form.
