According to a recent study, it was found that obesity may increase the risk of manifesting kidney stones. These are the solidified deposits of various minerals which causes a lot of pain while passing through the urethra.
The research was based on around 95,000 medical records. Also, the research was carried out on nearly 3,257 patients who had kidney stones in a period of 4 years.
Research Findings
Researchers found that nearly 1 in 40 individuals who have a normal weight or are overweight manifested kidney stones. They decided on this figure after comparing the results with 1 in 20 obese individuals.
The researchers at John Hopkins University are still unclear about the exact link between the two — kidney stones and obesity. Although, they think that obese individuals contain different levels of specific substances in their blood which makes them prone to kidney stones.
