Yes, say researchers from Britain. Overweight moms-to-be, they confirmed, generally give birth to obese children. The researchers further go onto explain that mothers are not programming to make their children obese in anyway. However, statistics revealed that overweight kids at the age of 9 or 11 were born to obese mothers-to-be. This study was based on an analysis of 4000 mothers and their children who were born between 1991 and 1992.
Obese children: A result of obesity during pregnancy
A Canadian professor from the University of Regina claims that obese children and adults are the result of not junk food-eating but also a more serious result of advertising campaigns. The professor who specializes in the field of marketing, states that adults and children should be addressed about healthy nutrition and exercises. He further reveals that about 26% of the Canadians are obese and fall between the age group of 2 to 17 years.
Some researchers confirmed that obesity during pregnancy can make the mom-to-be more vulnerable to gestational diabetes which is the leading cause of obese children.
Obese Infants
Experts claim that obesity during pregnancy can affect children in such a way that obesity in children is to be reported from the age of 11 months itself. Researchers have thereby arrived on the belief that obesity during pregnancy can lead to overweight children.
It is further revealed that overweight children are 9 times more likely to become obese in the future. In addition, experts suggest that an infant’s weight is affected directly by the body mass index of the mother than the father due to intrauterine and genetic influences.
Obesity in Children: A result of mother being overweight or obese before pregnancy
Researchers from the Ohio State University College of Nursing and School of Public Health claim that a child’s weight is affected long before he or she is born. Researchers reported that children become overweight at 2 or 3 years owing to their mother being overweight or obese even before pregnancy.
The Lawlor’s team of British researchers explains this phenomenon as a process by which obesity during pregnancy increases the fat and sugar levels in the mother’s blood which in turn causes the infant to suffer a poor nutrition control and hinders metabolism. The results thereby automatically contribute in making the children of these mothers obese.
Expert suggest that on an average a pregnant mother should weigh about 25-30 pounds and not more or less as the baby needs nutrition too. However, pregnancy weight loss can be achieved by eating less of fatty and junk foods. Specific exercises suggested by your doctor can also help you lose weight and maintain normal weights. Also, you would need to seek regular feedbacks from your doctor and remember diet control is an absolute must.
