Is professional life linked to the risk of developing obesity ? Well, burn calories at work is the suggestion given by researchers at the Université de Montréal, Canada, to the general public. The results of their findings are published in the online edition of the journal Preventive Medicine.
The information for the research study was collected from health databases of Canada. 17,000 – 1,32,000 people were part of the study which was funded by the Fonds de recherche en santé du Québec, the University of Montreal Public Health Research Institute, the Quebec Inter-University Centre for Social Statistics and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research.
Knowledge Gained from the Research on Burn Calories at Work Concept:
According to researchers at the Université de Montréal Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, the sudden burst in the rise of obesity to epidemic levels in recent times can be partly attributed to the inactivity at the workplace.
Over the last three decades (between 1978-2004), reduced activity behind the desks was found to be responsible for increasing obesity levels by 10 percent.
It is quite interesting to know that even though people follow better diet and are into regular exercise these days, there has been a steady rise in obesity in spite of this positive development in the society.
Moreover, men and women were found to be increasingly aware of the role played by their mode of transportation on leading a sedentary lifestyle. Involvement into walking and biking has risen considerably in spite of the availability of convenient transportation. This is another good news known from the study.
Simple Tips to Burn Calories at Work:
The researchers suggest that exercising in short phases throughout the day is beneficial rather than placing concentrated effort at once. Bringing sports, work and mode of transportation together to meet this end can be an innovative move to combat obesity. Walking during the break time and talking the stairs can be beneficial too.
