The Tibetan Meditation involves fixing of concentration.It is traditional and famous technique of meditation among the Tibetan Buddhist monks.This article describes the Tibetan Meditation.
The Techniques of Tibetan Meditation:
Stage one:
- Sit on the floor with your legs folded and the backbone as straight as possible.
- Place the hands below the navel with right hand over the left hand.
- The thumbs of both the fingers should touch each other forming a triangle.
- In this posture,one is prepared for this meditation physically.
Stage two:
- Bend the neck down slightly.
- The top of the tongue should touch the roof of the mouth.
- The eyes should gaze downwards.
- Concentrate on the thoughts and breathing.
- We should experience the calming down of the mind and slowing down of the breathing.
- In this stage,one is prepared for the meditation mentally too.
Stage Three:
- Here the actual practice of meditation begins.
- We focus our attention on an object of observation.
- The object should be observed clearly and steadily by focusing.
Stage Four:
- It is the toughest stage of meditation where external and internal distractions have to be eliminated.
- Any external distractions should be avoided by closing the eyes.
- The mind be bothered by heavy bombardment of thoughts.
- It has to be surpassed by focusing the object of meditation intensely.
- By the end of this stage the object of meditation attains stability.
Stage Five:
- This stage involves attaining clarity of the object.
- Intense focus of the mind on a object may make it over-withdrawn.
- The mind’s mode of appreciation is to be raised by imagining things that make us joyous.
- The rest of the technique involves retaining the stability and the clarity of the object.
Thus Tibetan meditation involves observing an object of meditation stability and clearly.In such state,the object is viewed in from all possible angles and sides.This is introspection where the mind experiences bliss amidst intense concentration on the object of meditation.
