Find a focal point — something about which you can think and on which you can focus your full attention. This will be very useful during meditation.
Here are some examples of objects which can be your focal point.
- A candle
- A mantra (a phrase that you repeat over and over in your mind to establish harmony and to focus on your meditation)
- A stone
- Something as simple as the sound of your own breathing.
No matter what you use as your focal point, continuously and firmly bring your mind back to that focal point. This is because the mind has a tendency to wander away easily but with continuous practice this phenomenon can be controlled
