Every one of us wants to live longer and have a healthy span of life. Let us ask ourselves some questions: What are the primary objectives of human life? It could be employment, money, intimate and loving relationship, possessions, name, fame etc. There is one element in all these which is common and that is ‘HAPPINESS’. Below are some of the fountains of happiness:
1. Move: Keep moving. Well, fitness is essential for good health which is one of the most vital ingredients of one’s happiness. Ayurveda says “Feeling of happiness and comfort is health”. Even moderate exercise makes a huge difference on how you feel.
2. Eat right foods: Eating a well balanced food will keep you energetic and free from diseases.
3. Pursue pleasures of life: Relax, take naps, play with your kid and pet, all these adds to your happiness.
4. Think good for yourself: A good self image is foundation of happiness.
5. Promote peace: Promote peace at your home as this is the place where quest for peace begins. Promote nonviolent ways to solve problems at home, office or community.
6. Control stress: Never go for methods like smoking, drinking or overeating in order to relieve stress. In order to relieve tension use one of the methods below:
- Express your feelings to others. Talking about your problems with your good friend or spouse is a valuable way to reduce tension and stress.
- Crying can also relieve tension. Crying is a part of emotional healing.
- Express your feelings by writing, art works etc. if you cannot share it directly with others.
- Take a long walk alone. After a long walk your stress level is a lower and becomes manageable.
7. Avoid drugs and excess alcohol: Other then tons of health problems drugs and excess alcohol give you a host of psychological problems as well. If you are overusing it then violence, social isolation, difficulties at work and office is waiting for you and would haunt you soon. For real happiness avoid it completely.
8. Control your anger and hostility: Notice next time you start getting angry and try to identify the cause of anger. When angry, count up to 10 after a cold glass of water. Scream or shout in private places. This will make you feel better.
9. Think Positive: People with positive attitude enjoy life more then otherwise.
10. Avoid Guilt: Remember some things are out of our control so there is no way we could do anything about it. Stop feeling guilty on such things as “Some things just are”.
11. Meditation and Prayer: Prayer makes us happy in more then dozen ways. It helps in uplifting and increasing morale, help reduce stress and anxiety, promote a more positive outlook, and strengthens our will to live.
12. Take middle path: Taking the mid path and avoiding extremes yields best results.
