Cancer is caused due to genetic and environmental factors. Many people feel that they need not take the necessary precautions as many are hale and hearty despite their risky habits. - One must be careful about one’s diet. Those who take a high fat diet with less fruits and vegetables are prone to certain types of cancers.
- Excessive weight is also a risk factor. Obesity is linked to cancers of the gallbladder, ovaries and the pancreas. One must try to cut down on one’s weight. Keeping in proper shape is essential. Physical exercise can keep body fat level under control.
- Lack of exercise and overweight are causes of cancer of the colon, breast, esophagus, uterus and kidney. Physical exercise reduces the body fat and many scientists feel that brisk walking of 30 minutes on 5 days or more during the week can help keep fit.
- Ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) can also cause cancer of the skin. Do not stay too long in the sun and use a sunscreen and avoid other sources of UV radiation.
- Some chemicals are also very harmful. Construction workers, painters and those associated with chemical industry are at a risk of developing cancer.
- Bacteria as well as viruses can also cause cancer, such as stomach cancer. Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are major causes of cervical cancer. Infections caused by Hepatitis B as well as C can cause cancer of the liver. AIDS also is a risk factor for cancer.
- One must keep one’s stress levels under control. Stress can cause cancer. Modern lifestyles are very hectic. Fast foods have substituted regular meals.
- One must control one’s worries and tensions, which can affect the body functioning.
