Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric disorder related to eating. It is the condition in which the patient takes beyond out-of-control fasting or dieting. The person with the disorder begins with common fasting for loosing the weight. This becomes an addition and person the person fasts unlimited with the fear of gaining weight. Symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa:
- Extreamely low body weight or serious underweight with distorted body image.
- Always seen excercising with extreme fear of gaining weight.
- Easily irritable and upset over the trifle things
- They look pale and weak and exhibit extreme fatigue.
- Decrease in attention and social withdrawal.
- Disruption insleep or unable to sleep normally.
- They exhibit other obsessions and compulsions related to food, weight and body image giving some of the symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder.
- They exhibit several symptoms of anxiety disorders, mood disorders and personality disorders.
- They seem carving for name and bosy image. They feel elevated when said about their body image.
- They constantly complain about everything. They are always unhappy for one reason or the other.
Who are at risk for Anorexia Nervosa:
Anorexia is the condition that primary affects females but young men are too of developing this disorder. Mostly this disorder effects adolescent women who are very concerned of their body image. But this condition is also seen in young children and adults.
Causcians are more affected with this disorder compared to other races. It is also found that this disease is found in upper and middle class of socioeconomic groups. Some studies shows that there is increased risk of developing this disease of someone has family history and genetical predisposition of the disease.
Causes and Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa:
There is no particular cause of anorexia nervosa has been determined so far. But the experts feel that the demands and pressure from social and family can be possibly the underlying cause of anorexia nervosa.
Anorexia nervosa can be successful treated by correction of malnutrition by intravenous feeding. Several therapies such as psychological therapy, individual therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, group therapy and family therapy have all been successful in treatment of anorexia.
