Jesus Christ fasted during His time on the earth. You can see the blessings which come from regular fasting from the Jesus Christ. Jesus inspired most of His disciples for participating in the regular fasts. Even now, Mormons follow Jesus example by fasting diligently for giving thanks or at times of need.
Most of the people are aware with Jesus Fast which lasted for 40 days and nights in desert when He was baptized. While fasting, Satan appeared to Jesus, taunting Him and asking Him to prove his holiness by utilizing the God-given super power. Scholars agitated about what Satan was trying to get from Jesus. Some predict that Satan wanted to tempt Him by giving Him some power over some kingdom’s or tried to break His fast. Jesus rejected Satan’s offers. After failing, Satan gave up and Jesus was fed and nourished by the angels to end His fast.
The first Sunday of month is considered as the day of the Fasting in Mormon Church. The members of the church are endorsed to forgo 2 consecutive meals, attend the fast and testimony meeting in Mormon congregation, and also give the fast to help the needy. People offer the money they might have spent on the food on that particular day to the needy. This is used for helping the needy.
Mormon families practice fast together and also offers prayers in the concern of the family members of the crisis. Fast done by these families are extremely powerful. Mormons share their spiritual gifts through the priesthood power and miracles of comfort and healing are common.
A special fast is always scheduled by Church. It happened once when the Africans starved. The members of the Church scheduled and participated in the fast, with an understanding that the money they saved by skipping the meals would be offered to those starving people. Most of the members who participate in fast belong to the poor countries. Six million dollars were collected from that particular fast.
During the fast, people forgo drinking and eating for a scheduled times.though, it seems like sacrifice, blessings received from the fasting are very immense. Jesus preached how to fast and why to fast. People fast when they need some help and at the times of gratitude. Before making major decisions, Mormons are encouraged to fast. Through sacrificing food on small scale . Emphasizes Christ when He sacrificed life. Fasting serves as a way to show the commitment to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
