Breaking the fast is the most vital part of fasting. It can be difficult to break a fast. It is also the most challenging part of the fast — the lust to grab down the burger or a huge meal of pasta after many days of starving may be very intense. But doing mistakes in this period may derail the fasting benefits and makes it for naught. An instant return to the normal diet may jolt body and causes sudden and painful diarrhea. Most common rule is that the same amount of time must be spent on wearing back to the normal diet which you spent on fast. Is such case, you must spend a week weaning back to the normal diet.
Instructions for Breaking the Juice Fast:
- On the first day, continue with the teas, water and juices as usual. Some time in the day, when you are free for an hour, eat a small piece of the fresh fruit slowly. Drink some water while eating fruit. You must feel the need for moving the bowels shortly after having fruit. This results in small amount of the painless diarrhea. Also have 2 — 3 small pieces of fruits in the day.
- On the second day also continue with the juice, water and teas as usual. If desired, you can take more fresh fruits. You can consume fresh veggies as well if the bowel movement does not bother you and also if you feel hungry.
- On the 3 — 5 days, the digestive system must be up and running again. Continue drinking water, juice and tea. Slowly, increase the quantity and amount of fresh veggies and fruits. Try to have gentle proteins and starches such as saltines and nuts.
- On the 6 — 7 days, start weaning off the tea and juice. Gradually, start eating normal meals, but have small amounts of food. Also monitor the body changes and be cautious to not exceed it.
