Easter is one among the most famous Christmas festivals. This is celebrated in order to mark the holy renascence of Jesus Christ. People of the Christian community throughout the world celebrate this occasion for expressing the fervor and joy. On Easter Sunday, day starts with the services, hymns and prayers at the church and wrap up with the celebration and feasting. This day comes after a long phase of mourning and deprivation. Hence, this is celebrated with an extreme delight and happiness. During this phase, people practice fasting.
Earlier, fasting before the Easter has been practiced till 4th Century. This phase of fasting is known as Lent and usually followed for 40 days. But several Christian denominations fast on different days and different ways. Roman Catholics fast for about seven days up to Easter Sunday, that is till renascence of Jesus Christ. Protestants fast in the related way. However, formally their fast ends by the sundown on the Holy Thursday. Despite, people of certain legacy do not fast like some Protestants don’t practice fast prior to Easter. It is clear from the religious sayings that it is not mandatory to fast in Christianity.
There are various reasons why people practice Easter fasting. This can be interpreted in different ways. Some experts believe that it has to do with what Jesus Christ said in the Mathews. In this verse, it is said that Christ knew his death in advance. He also believed that his disciples need not fast until he returns to Father. He felt that until he is on the earth, his disciples must rejoice with him. Thus, all his disciples fated to commemorate his death when he left for the heavenly abode.
People also believed that practicing fast before the Easter is a way for thanking God and express their gratitude. It is because of his grace, forgiveness and love, that we are gifted with the life. Hence, fasting is a way of showing their love and faith towards the almighty. They also believed that in this way people can overcome the basic necessities of the life and fusing with the God, such that the mistakes and sins could be forgiven as well as the sense of piousness is introduced into the soul.
Easter fasting is also a sign of obtaining the God’s work and trusting the almighty for a big change. This is the best way of turning into the almighty when they undergo any crisis such as broken relationships, financial needs, sickness, etc. During the fast, one only remembers almighty every moment. This is also the best time for claiming some promises from him.
