Fasting is a personal event. There are many bible scriptures on fasting. Fasting is one way of worship. This article gives you some of the important bible scriptures on fasting.
According to Mathew (6:16-18) :
“Moreover when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret …”
Fasting is a personal practice. When you are fasting do not look dull and depressed as how hypocrites do. Hypocrites disfigure their faces to show people they are fasting. Truth is they received their reward fully. But when you fast, wash your face and apply oil to your head. So that others will not know you are fasting, but only God the Father knows it, who is unseen. And God rewards you for what you have done in secret.
According to 1 Corinthians (7:3-5):
“Fasting is not only concerned with food but also other things. The wife should fulfill her marital duty to her husband, and in the same way the husband to his wife. The wife’s body not only belongs to her alone but also to her husband. Likewise, the husband’s body not only belongs to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer”
Luke 18:9-14:
“And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray. . . The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are . . . I fast twice in the week, I give tithes . . . And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to this house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted”
Be humble and do not praise yourself. A person who praises himself will be lowered and one who is humble will be raised.
