Unequal pupil or Anisocoria is the condition of unequal size of the pupil. Pupil is black colored part which is located in the center of the eye. In this condition, the pupil enlargers in the dim light and reduces in the bright light.
Unequal pupil represents a manifestation of the other disease. This condition is an abnormality in the muscles of the iris or an abnormality in the systematic pathways which innervate the pupil. Unequal pupil or Anisocoria can be referred as the asymmetry of the diameter in the pupil which is usually less than 2 mm.
Causes Of Unequal Pupil:
The causes of unequal pupil can be summarized in the following points:
- Any kind of injury in the head which has resulted in the bleeding inside the skull.
- Meningitis can be a reason for this condition as it causes the infection in the membranes of the brain.
- Tumors in the brain can also result in this condition.
- Glaucoma in one of the eyes can result in excess of the pressure which could result in this disease.
- Horner syndrome is considered as one of the main reasons for this condition.
- Aneurysm can also be one of the reasons for this condition.
- Migraine headaches can also result in this condition.
- Seizure could also result in the unequal pupil.
Symptoms Of Unequal Pupil:
Some basic symptoms which will be accompanied by the unequal pupil are:
- Double vision in the eyes
- Fever or feverish feeling will be there.
- Vision will become blurred.
- Headache is commonly found with this condition.
- Eye will become sensitive towards the light.
- Sometimes vision loss can be noticed.
- Vomiting or feeling of nausea.
- Stiffness in the neck can be noticed.
- Severe pain in the eyes.
