Low vision, is a term used to describe visual impairment which cannot be corrected with lenses or glasses, medicine or surgery. Many low vision aids are available to enable people with low vision disabilities to function better outdoors.
Devices That Aid Distance Vision
- Anti-glare Lenses: Visually impaired persons are highly sensitive to glare. Hence, special lens that reduce glare are recommended for them. They are very comfortable during all weather conditions.
- Blue-blocking Lenses: They are lenses that absorb the blue part of the visible light. This also reduces the glaring effect of light.
- Photochromic Lenses: These lenses turn light or dark depending on the amount of sunlight exposure.

- Canes and walkers are generally perceived as aids for the blind or those with walking disabilities. But they can be as useful even to those with night blindness and partial or full peripheral(sides)vision loss.
- It helps in navigating unpaved areas and maintain balance.
- Foldable canes or telescoping canes are sturdy, portable and light.
- Such accessories are very important as poor visibility can lead to bad falls and injuries.
- Sticking reflective tapes to these accessories can make them more visible during night.
