Is an eye color change surgery suggestible? Many people and even a few ophthalmologists out there are asking this question. A few people who have undergone this cosmetic eye color change surgery have alleged it of causing severe complications.
An ophthalmologist from the US has denounced this cosmetic surgery, while a few have expressed their anguish and outrage on youtube and various other blogs.
The Advent of the Surgery: The creator of this surgery Mr.Kahn has been working for the past fifteen years at a renowned hospital in Panama City. Dr. Kahn has also acquired a patent for the eye color change surgery from the US patents office in 2006 and is due to expire in 2023.
The surgery involves the insertion of a color disk(hazel, blue or green) in the iris changing the natural eye color of the person. According to Dr.Kahn’s website, this treatment is not only for patients with congenital eye defects but also for enthusiasts who wish to change their eye color. If need be, the color disk can also be removed and the natural eye color restored at a later stage at the discretion of the patient.
Is an Eye Color Change Surgery Suggestible: According to ophthalmologist Dr. Kerry Assil, an expert in refractive surgery(appears in many television programmes) the risks of a cosmetic eye surgery outweigh it’s benefits.
- He opines that the first and foremost risk associated with this surgery is blindness. Based on the size, shape and the location where it is placed in the eye, the color disk may lead to cataracts or a corneal loss and severe eye inflammation. In some cases a severe case of glaucoma may also develop causing irreversible blindness.
- Also, according to an article on pubmed.gov, two patients suffered from multiple complications post this surgery and the color disks had to be removed. The complications included severe eye pressure, corneal cell loss and inflammation in the eye. One patient was even found with a pool of blood in his eye post surgery. The damage caused was said to be irreversible and the patients may suffer from progressive vision loss.
- In spite of many positive feedbacks about this surgery on Dr.Kahn’s website by many people who underwent this surgery, is an eye color change suggestible? Well, may people have complained about shedding loads of money on post surgery eye drops for long periods of time. Many have complained of severe complications arising.
I would say, wait for the surgery procedures to improve in order to have an eye color change surgery.
