Eyelids are the most sensitive part of eyes. Irritation in eyelids can be due to various reasons. Generally, irritation in eyelids takes place when excess of secretion takes place from the glands which adjoin eyelids.
Eyelid irritation is the discomfort caused to the lids due some cause. There can a number of causes which can result in irritation of the eye lids.
Causes Of Eyelid Irritation:
Some of the common causes of eyelid irritation are:
- Eye Eczema
- Blepharitis
- Production of excess of oil near the eyelids.
- Poisoning of the chemical present in and around the eyes can result in irritation.
Eye Swelling And Irritation of Upper Eye Lid:
Eyelids have various functions apart from protecting the eyes. Some of these functions are lubricating the eyes, producing oil secretions for the eyes, helping in draining away the tears.
There are various infections of the eyelids that can result in swelling of the eyes and irritation in the eyelids. Some of these infections can vary from chalazion or stye, eyelid cellulites, eyelid ectropion, eyelid entropion, eyelid tumor; calcifications inside the eyelids are some of the problems which can result in swelling of the eyes and irritation in the eyelids.
Some non — cancerous growths like skin —tags or horns which are normally fleshy growth on the skin; seborrheic keratoses which are cosmetic problems and are rarely removed can also cause irritation sometimes. Another growth which is called cysts which grow on eyelid and drain off in sometime and reoccur again could also be irritating and painful.
Viral papillomas also grow on the eyelids causing eye irritation. These normally grow on the edge of the eyelids whereas another growth called granulomas grows either inside or outside of the eyelids.
