There are number of disorders that can result in cornea problems. Most common among them are infection, ulceration and abrasion. Diet for corneal problems
- Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. It provides vitamins E and C, beta-carotene and large amount of micro nutrients. It protects against cataracts.
- Eat carrots, sweet potatoes and squash which contains nutrients essential for night vision. Kale, spinach and other green vegetables contain many carotenoids that prevent cataracts.
- Eat lean meats, oysters, fortified cereals, crab and lobster. These contain zinc which fight against macular degeneration.
- Egg yolk contains zeaxanthin and utein, antioxidants which help to reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. It is good to eat an egg everyday. Eat fish and chicken. Both vitamin A and protein are necessary for healthy eyes.
- Limit the intake of alcohol, caffeine and sugar.
Herbal treatment for cornea problems
- Bilberry contains nutrients that nourish the eyes and improve visual function. Anthocyanids present in this herb prevent damage to the eye structure. Take 40 to 80 mg of 25 percent anthocyanids three times everyday.
- Golden seal and Echinacea support the immune system and fast healing. Take one dose of golden seal and an Echinacea combination supplying 150 to 350 mg of golden seal and 250 to 500 mg of Echinacea three to four times everyday for three to four days.
- Eyebright is rich source of vitamin C and vitamin A. It also contains some amounts of vitamin D, traces of vitamin E and B-complex vitamins. Eyebright can be used as an eye wash or taken in the form of tea.Take a cup of this tea two to three times everyday.
- Ginkgo biloba has antioxidant properties and protects cellular membranes. It enhances the use of glucose and oxygen by the cells. It improves circulation. Take 40 mg of ginkgo heterosides three times daily.
