Actually swedana is heating therapy while snehana is the external application of oils. Different oils are given for different body types or diseases (see the book Ayurvedic Massage Therapy- Dr. Ranade and Dr. Rawat). Some of these oils may be medicated. Nadi swedana means applying heat through a rubber tube (called a nadi) which has been hooked up to a pressure cooker in which herbs have been placed in water.
