Chicken pox, in medical terms is called Varicella. There are various ayurvedic treatments available for chicken pox. The disease is caused by a virus named Varicella zoster. The ayurvedic name for the disease is Laghu Masurika. The disease mostly affects children, but sometimes adults can also get affected.
The infection starts with a low grade fever, body weakness and headache. After two days of fever, red blisters appear on the body. Then, the blisters break into scab like scars, which lasts for two to three weeks. It is an acute infectious disease.
Causes of Chicken Pox
Some important causes of chicken pox are as follows –
- Contact with other person’s open blisters.
- Breathing air borne chicken pox droplets.
- Poor immune system can cause the disease.
- Herpes Varicella zoster virus.
- Wrong feeding of children.
- Long illness can cause the disease.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Chicken Pox
Some ayurvedic treatments for the cure of chicken pox are as follows –
- Warm water enema — This is given during the juice fast to help cleanse the bowel.
- Mud pack application — Application of mud pack alternating on chest and abdomen twice a day is very helpful.
- Lukewarm bath water with Neem — Boil Neem leaves in water. This water should be added to bathing water as it is an excellent remedy to get relief from itching.
- Shade for the eyes — A person suffering from chicken pox gets affected by light. Hence, it is advised to dim the light by partial cover. This happens because the immune system becomes weak.
- Sandalwood oil — Application of sandalwood oil is believed to be good for its cure. It can be applied from the day, rashes first appear till fall of scabs.
- Oatmeal bath — This is one of the effective remedies for chicken pox, which not only heals chicken pox, but also relieves itching sensation.
- Honey application — Some naturopaths believe that application of pure honey can heal the blisters in three days.
- Ginger — It can be added in bath water to stop itching.
- Carrot and Coriander soup — It can be prepared by boiling 100 gms of carrot and 60 gms of coriander. The soup should be taken once a day for quick relief from the disease.
- Herbs — Burdock roots, golden seal, ginger and St. John’s wart work on chicken pox. Other herbs such as basil, lemon balm, chamomile, and marigold are effective cures for the disease. Its tea should be prepared with a little honey, lemon and cinnamon. This tea will also improve immunity to fight against the virus.
- Ayurvedic medicines — Prescribed medicines for chicken pox are Swarnamakshika Bhasma, Eladyarishta and Indukala vati should be taken as prescribed by doctor.
These are some of the ayurvedic treatments for chicken pox. Though, there are various other home remedies which can be taken followed for quick relief from the condition.
