Sleeplessness has become one of the commonest ailments related to lifestyle problems in the world. Sleep is extremely important to bring back the body to its normal functioning state. The body will not be able to work properly without sleep and the quality of work will suffer. There are various ayurvedic treatments available for sleeplessness treatment.
Sleeplessness can be caused due to various conditions such as depression, tension and stress. The sleeplessness affected person suffers from disturbed nights. The cause for sleeplessness could be some external source of irritation such as uncomfortable surroundings and a slight degree of pain. Other conditions such as nervous weakness or fever infection can also cause sleep loss. A sound, peaceful and uninterrupted sleep work as a tonic for the mind and body.
Ayurvedic View of Sleeplessness
- Any disturbance in one or more of the three body doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha, along with an increase in rajas guna, cause this disease.
- Sometimes a distortion in all the three doshas tends to cause sleeplessness.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Sleeplessness
Following are some of the ayurvedic treatments for sleeplessness –
- Ashwagandha – Pound some Ashwagandha roots and make a powder of it. Take 3 to 5 grams powder with warm water or sweetened milk before sleeping.
- Mint leaves — Prepare a decoction by boiling mint leaves. Allow to cool gradually. Take the slightly warmed decoction with 1 teaspoon honey or mishri. Repeat it at bedtime for few days.
- Cumin seeds — Fry 1 teaspoon powder of cumin seeds in desi ghee (clarified butter) and pound them. Mix it with ripe banana pulp. Take the preparation at bedtime.
- Almond oil — Massage with almond oil over scalp is beneficial. Also mix some drops of almond oil in hot buffalo’s milk and drinking at bedtime is recommended.
- Raw onions — Increase the intake of raw onions in salad for few days.
- Coriander seeds — Pound approx 1 large teaspoon of dry coriander seeds. Remove the husk and boil the seeds in a glassful of milk. Take the warm preparation with some sugar before sleeping.
- If you remain sleepless occasionally, increase the papaya consumption.
