The Ayurvedic name for lumbar spondylitis is Teevar Prishtha Shoola. The disease is associated with lumbar region of spinal cord. The onset of the disease is a very gradual process. Spondylitis can lead to hurtful pain, partial paralysis and limited motion. When the problem is neglected, it could turn into a serious problem.

- Distortion or vitiation in the body humors causes this disease.
- An aggravation in the vata humor is the predisposing cause.
Ayurvedic Cure for Lumbar Spondylitis
- Turmeric — Mix 1 teaspoon powder of raw turmeric and ¼ teaspoon of dried ginger powder in a glass of warm milk and take it at bedtime.
- Fenugreek (Methi) – Roast and powder methi seeds and take approximately 3 to 5 grams along with hot milk or water twice a day.
- Ginger — Dried ginger’s decoction is prepared and mixed with a little amount of pure castor oil. Take approximately ½ cup, warmed, at bedtime.
- Mustard Oil — Mix a little amount of camphor in mustard oil and warm it till it is tolerably hot. Massage onto the site of pain.
Characteristic Symptoms of Lumbar Spondylitis
- Pain and stiffness in the back that is more during the mornings.
- Restriction of the lumbar spine movements.
- Pain is more on the sacroiliac compression.
- Osteoporosis may be an accompanying feature.
The most important cause of spondylosis is sitting in the same position for long hours. As a result, this position puts excess pressure on the lumbar region and compresses the vertebrae. It can also be caused by injury in the lumbar region.
