Eczema is a disease of skin, which can affect people of any age. It is termed Vicharchika in Ayurveda. It has various treatments in Ayurvedic medicine. The disease is considered as mild form of leprosy.
Types of Eczema –
There are 2 kinds of eczema –
- Exogenous
- Endogenous
Ayurvedic View of Eczema
- Dry skin or lack of moisture in the skin causes the skin more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses, which makes the condition more worse.
- The ayurvedic cure of the disease prevents the disease by correcting the levels of the three doshas.
- The diseases develops as a result of imbalance of any dosha.
- Kapha dosha aggaravation leads to the diseased condition along with variation of other two doshas — the vata and pitta dosha.
Ayurvedic Cure for Eczema
- Panchkarma treatment — It is a complete body purification therapy.
- Raktamoksha — It is a blood purification method. This is not a treatment for people with certain health problems such as anemia, mental disturbances and physical weaknesses. This treatment is not permitted for children and aged people.
- Swedana — The method induces sweating and detoxifies the blood.
- Snehana — This method makes the skin smooth by oily preparation.
Other Ayurvedic Treatment for Eczema
- Coconut oil — Boil coconut oil with a few garlic cloves. Filter it, allow it to cool down slowly and apply on the affected skin twice or thrice daily. Coconut oil can also be mixed with camphor and applied on the affected area.
- Wheatgrass juice — It should be applied to the affected skin and also drinking approx 50 ml. twice a day. It is a natural antiseptic.
- Neem leaves — Neem leaves decoction should be used for washing the affected area.
- Myrobalans — It is a mixture of Aamla, Harad and Baheda. Prepare a decoction of myrobalans and wash the affected area.
- Turmeric — Application of turmeric paste locally benefits the eczema condition.
Some other Ayurvedic herbs can also cure the eczema condition, which are as follows –
- Mahua (Madhuca indica)
- Babul (Acacia arabica)
- Arka (Calotropis gigantica)
- Alsi (Linum usitatissimum)
- Mangal karanda (Pongamia pinnata)
- Palasha (Butea monosperma)
