Liver cirrhosis is a chronic disease in which the liver becomes weak. There are various treatments for liver cirrhosis. As the liver is the most important part of the body, it helps regulate various vital functions of the body such as metabolism and digestion and several others. The liver becomes very weak and the person suffers from weight and appetite loss due to improper functioning of the liver.
The Ayurvedic term for liver cirrhosis is Yakrit Vishamayata. There are several causes for liver cirrhosis and alcohol consumption is one of the commonest problems. Along with some Ayurvedic medicines, a well balanced healthy diet will also work to improve the condition.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Liver Cirrhosis
Following are some of the Ayurvedic treatments for liver cirrhosis –
- Bhringraj — Take approx. 15 ml fresh juice of Bhringraj.
- Jamun (Syzigium cumini) — Jamun fruit tones the liver and improves its working.
- Aloe vera — 15-20 ml juice should be taken on an empty stomach.
- Methi (Fenugreek) — Take 2 to 3 gms of powdered methi along with warm water to tone the sluggish liver.
- Kutaki — Take 1 gm powdered kutaki rhizome with warm water twice a day.
- Karela (Bittter gourd) — Its juice works wonders for the liver, even if taken in small quantities.
Ayurvedic View of Liver Cirrhosis
- The disease seems to be similar to spleenomegaly except that the pain is on the right side of the abdomen.
- The phlegm or Kapha humor of the body combines with impure blood and causes the disease.
- Liver cirrhosis is of three types –
Caused by vitiation in the vata dosha or the air body humor.
Caused by vitiation of pitta dosha or the fire body humor.
Caused by vitiation of distortion of phlegm or kapha.
