Stones in the Gall bladder are a very painful condition. There are effective treatments available in Ayurveda medicine, but it is a slow treatment. Gall stones may vary in size, which can also cause hindrance in bile or secretions of gall bladder. The condition can exacerbate and can lead to acute pain, disturbed digestive system, infections and inflammation.
Gall stones are mostly found in females above the age of 40. They also affect the women having multiple pregnancies. Ayurvedic medicines dissolve the stones in the gall bladder and thus surgery can be prevented. In Ayurveda, the disease is called Pittayshaya Ashmari.

- Vitiation in the vata, pitta and kapha doshas of the body cause this disease.
- The predominant factor is the aggravation in pitta dosha of the body.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Stones
Following are some of the ayurvedic treatments of gall bladder stone –
- Patharchat (Bryophyllum) — Pound fresh leaves of Bryophyllum and take them 2 to 3 times in a day.
- Aloe vera — Its juice can be taken in dosage of 20 ml on an empty stomach.
- Kulthi – Soak 50 gms of Kulthi pulse in water overnight. Mash it in the morning and drink it. 30 ml decoction of Kulthi seeds can also be taken twice a day.
- Coconut water — It should be taken 3 or 4 times a day.
- Papaya — It is a very effective treatment for stones. Extract juice of papaya and mix it with some water. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach for a few days.
Characteristic Symptoms of Gall Bladder Stones
- Pain and discomfort in the upper part of the abdomen followed by tenderness and rigidity in the right hypochondrium.
- There may be nausea, vomiting and sometimes fever with chills.
- Pain is aggravated on taking a fatty meal.
