Ayurveda system lists three body types or Doshas, namely, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These are governed by any two of the five basic elements of Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Ether. Each of these Doshas govern different bodily and mental processes.
Although different people have different body types, skin health is mainly related to Vata Dosha, irrespective of which body type the individual is. But depending on the Doshas, there are different tips given to have better skin.
Ayurveda skin care tips
There are skin care methods suggested for people with different body types. Once you know your body type, you can follow these tips accordingly to get healthier and more radiant skin.
Vata Dosha: Governed by Air and Ether
This body type usually has rough, dry and cold skin due to lack of adequate sebum secretion. Their skin has smaller pores and loses water very easily ans very fast. Their skin is also prone to wrinkling and premature aging. Such skin is also prone to scratching and bruising easily.
Pitta Dosha: Governed by Fire and Water
This body type usually has oily skin. The skin pores are usually medium sized with larger pores in the T-zone. It gets reddish and gets blotchy spots and patches. This skin type is very sensitive and prone to allergies and blackheads.
Kapha Dosha: Governed by Earth and Fire
This body type is characterized by oily and thick skin. The skin is usually fair and very cool. The skin pores are usually large. This skin type is prone to deep wrinkling and cystic acne.
Skin care for dry skin
- Have only fresh warm foods
- Include fats and oils in daily diet
- Juicy and sweet fruits should be eaten
- Salty and sour foods should be consumed
- Have at least eight to nine glasses of warm water everyday
- Avoid Fried and stale foods
- Sleep well, at least eight hours everyday
Skin care for oily skin
- Have a light and mildly spicy diet
- Include pepper, long pepper and ginger in everyday diet
- Include fresh vegetables, especially leafy vegetables, and fruits in daily diet
- Avoid fatty foods, tea, coffee and other beverages, as well as chocolates
- Wash your face often and use water-based creams
