All human beings are made up of Tridoshas —Vata, Pitta and Kapha, but in different proportions. Good balance between these three doshas is necessary for the healthy state of the human beings. The balanced state of Ttridosha will bestow well being for the person.
Our body is made up of three elements Dhatus (tissues), Malas(waste products) and Doshas (functional unit of the body). Among these, three Doshas— Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the main elements which determine our bodily functions, physiological as well as psychological and also the structure of the body. Tridoshas are directly related with our movements, transformations, senses and activities. Most of our bodily activities can be explained in terms of these Doshas.
Vata
Vata Dosha is associated with the physical phenomena attributed to the nervous system; it is influential in governing the physical activities such as movements of muscles, breathing, movements of eye lids, heart beat.
Vata Dosha influences our emotions and feelings like anxiety, fear, pain, tremors, freshness and spasm. It is also related to touch sensation. If the level of Vata is abnormal in your body it will get accumulated in the body parts such as thighs, ears, bones, pelvic cavity, hips, skin and large intestine. Vata Dosha is instrumental in the elimination of bodily substances like semen, feces, urine, sweat and foetus. It also assists the metabolisms in the body and is associated with the physical and mental movements of the body.
Pitta
Pitta dhosha is related with the chemical processes happening in the body. It helps in the metabolic functions of the body, maintenance of body temperature, vision, comprehension, colour and softness of the skin.
Kapha
Kapha Dosha is endowed with the physical structure and lubrication of the body. It is associated with processes involved in the maintenance of skeletal system. Kapha dosha helps to provides biological strength, vigour and stability, lubricate the joints, moisturise the skin, provides necessary conditions for the reproductive activities, helps lungs and heart and keeps the immunity of the body.
When each of these Doshas are balanced in their quantity, quality and functions, you will be healthy.
Causes for the Imbalance
