Allergies are sensitivity to an allergen or outside material from the environment. The symptoms and causes of an allergy can differ from person to person and depends on the environment in which the person is. The intensity of the symptoms also depends on the amount of allergen.
The baby’s body is very sensitive to the new environment from the womb, so a baby’s body response to an allergen can be life threatening. A baby could develop itching, coughing, sneezing and congestion kind of conditions. Some extreme cases of anaphylactic shock can also be observed, which could be fatal for a baby. Symptoms and Signs of Allergies in Babies
Different kinds of allergies and their symptoms in babies are given as follows:
Food Allergies:
- Some food can turn out to be allergic for babies. These can account for nearly 90% of allergies. Staying away from that food does not provide sufficient solution for that particular food allergy. For example — when a baby has got milk allergy, the baby should be tested for cause behind the intolerance of lactose.
- Some foods that might cause allergies are — milk, wheat, soy, shell fish, fish, eggs, walnuts and peanuts etc.
- Some symptoms of food allergies can include — vomiting, diarrhea, swelling, hives, eczema and breathing difficulty.
Nasal Allergies:
- This is a common type of allergy in babies as they are most sensitive to any type of nasal allergies.
- Some causes of nasal allergies can include — dust mite, molds and dander. Dander is a piece of hair or skin of animals.
- Nasal allergies symptoms are almost similar to the common cold and if the symptoms in the baby persist for more than a day or two, immediately seek for a medical advise.
- Some symptoms of nasal allergies can include — cough, running nose, watery eyes, congestion, sneezing, itchy red rashes on the skin and dark circles under the eyes.
