    Mimosa Plant Allergy

    Mimosa plant allergy is the typical seasonal allergy. It is caused due to seasonal variations. It typically occurs in summer. Summer is the pollinating season for the mimosa plant. During this time pink clored flowers are produced by the plant. High levels of pollen get accumulated. This is carried through the air and spread to the surroundings. Mimosa pollen is an inhelent allergen. That means it enters the body though eyes, nose and mouth.

    Prominent Symptoms of Mimosa Plant Allergy

    Prominent symptoms of mimosa tree allergy include the following:

    Hay fever : Mostly results in initial symptoms associated with mimosa pant allergy.

    Conjunctivitis: Most important among the severe reactions caused when the initial symptoms are not treated in a timely manner.

    Mild to Moderate Symptoms of Mimosa Plant Allergy

    Hay Fever: Mild and moderate mimosa tree allergies cause hay fever. Hay fever typically includes the following symptoms:

    • Runny nose
    • Sneezing
    • Wheezing
    • Coughing
    • Watery eyes

    Advanced Symptoms of Mimosa Plant Allergy

    These symptoms when untreated lead to allergic sinusitis. The allergic sinusitis results in the following complications:

    • Facial tenderness
    • Headaches
    • Congestion
    • Allergic conjunctivitis

    Conjunctivitis: Mimosa tree pollen cause allergic conjunctivitis of the eyes which is accompanied by following reactions:

    • Swelling of the eyes and eyelids
    • Redness in the eyes
    • Severe itching
    • Watery discharge

    Treatment for Mimosa Plant Allergy

    The following medications can be used to treat the symptoms of mimosa tree allergy:

    • Oral and tropical antihistamines
    • Over-the-counter decongestants,
    • Anti-inflammatory inhalers
    • Corticosteroids and allergy injections

    Warning

    Mimosa trees are know for attracting bees and wasps. So individuals who are sensitive to insect bites and prone to rashes, hives swelling and life threatening anaphylactic reactions( whole body reaction) are advised to stay away from these plants.
