Ample rest, nutritious diet and meditation all go a long way in a safe delivery and a healthy baby. Pregnancy is a period when a woman has to take utmost care of her physical and mental health. Meditation will help you explore your inner self and establish an inexplicable connection with your unborn child. Meditation is one very effective way of achieving this inner harmony. As a bonus, practicing regular mediation can also be an effective way of reducing the pain of labour.
There are different kinds of meditation which a pregnant woman could try. Discussed below are some techniques which are effective:
Mantra japa meditation: Ancient yogis discovered certain ways of developing and controlling the mind by using sounds, both aloud as well as mental. Mantra japa is one of such ways. Mantra literally means “that which liberates the mind†. Mantra Japa meditation is a very effective form of meditation where a certain sound is repeated a number of times to have a remarkably soothing and subtle impact on your consciousness. It has an extremely positive effect on your senses and on the developing foetus.
Tantien meditation: This technique focuses on improving your overall energy. The following are the steps to practice it:
- Place your hands on your lower belly over the uterus.
- Close your eyes and breathe in slowly through your nose.
- Exhale.
- You should breathe normally, but concentrate on the flow of air through your nose.
- Pay attention to your belly as it moves downwards on each exhalation.
As you take in each breath, your center of energy, or Tantien, expands. The aim of this meditation is also to improve your concentration and relaxation. You don’t need to do any specific meditation to effectively relax. Consider simply taking five minutes out of your day as quiet time. Settle in a place where you will not be disturbed. Close your eyes and allow your thoughts to flow freely.
Reiki meditation: Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands†and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy†flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. This is a very effective meditation technique which prepares a pregnant woman mentally and physically for childbirth.
