Gastric Bypass Surgery helps the people in weight loss. After the surgery the size of the stomach becomes smaller. The major portion of the stomach and the small intestine bypasses in this surgery. After the gastric bypass surgery,the stomach gets filled quickly.
It is not allowed to intake food for three to four hours after gastric bypass surgery. The food intake after the surgery depends on the diet.The new diet plan helps the body to get adjusted to the new pattern of food consumption.
Diet Plan for First Three Months:-
- Liquid diet such as juice, broth, strained soup and water is prescribed for the people who have undergone gastric bypass surgery. The diet aids the healing process.
- For next three to four weeks, semisolid or pureed foods are administered.
- During the eight week, the patient is allowed to eat soft food such as fruits, vegetables, soft meat and cooked vegetables. Remember that the food should be easier to chew and digest.
- Intake adequate liquids when you will start having soft food such as soft meat.
- Initially take 6 small meals and then break it into 3 meals. Do not drink water or liquid while having food.
- Intake of food which is rich in protein and low fat dairy products.
Long Term Diet Plan:-
- Your body is now getting adjusted to new pattern of food consumption. Try to have small number of meals. If you have shown the signs of fast recovery, you can have solid foods. Try to have solid food one at a time. You are likely to develop chest pain, nausea and vomiting if you intake large amount of food.
- Chew the food before swallowing. This will enhance the digestion process. Avoid eating rolls,buns and cheese. Stick to the diet plan strictly.
- Avoid food which are rich in sugar and fats.It becomes very necessary to have vitamins and minerals after gastric bypass surgery. Do not drink alcohol and hot drinks.
