- High cholesterol patients should reduce fat food intake especially, foods with saturated fat.
Stop Drinking Alcohol
- Alcohol intake is one of the major cause for fatty liver (alcoholic fatty liver), it leads to dysfunction or damage of the liver.
- For these patients drinking alcohol is a big NO, as it contains very high calories.
Reduce Weight
- Obesity is one of the cause for fatty liver, and it also increases the risk of liver failure in morbid obese individuals.
- Reducing weight will have significant effect on fatty liver. But, the weight loss should not be drastic. It is good if the patient can loose one to two pounds a week.
Other Diet Changes
- Try to avoid eating white bread, pasta, white rice, breakfast cereals, chocolates, concentrated sugar, soft drinks and added sugar fruit drinks.
- Eat whole meal food like whole meal bread, brown rice and whole meal tortilla’s.
The food consumed by fatty liver patients should have high fiber, low calories, no saturated fat and excess sugars. Examples of these kind of foods are fish, turkey, chicken, vegetables, fruits, oats, skim milk, low cream products, legumes and pulses.
