The nutrition department from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill is of the pinion that pure exhaustion could lead to obesity. It is reported that about 14000 men and women were gaining weight on account of increased levels of simple pure exhaustion. This raises a anew question in the light of the obesity epidemic taking the face of the Earth — Is stress at home and work adding more pounds to people? Probably yes, says the new research.
What is Pure or Vital Exhaustion?
Vital exhaustion is explained by experts as a psychological state of mind where the mind suffers from a sense of frustration, defeat and irritation. Infact, vital exhaustion has been linked with an increased risk of heart diseases. It is reported that almost 30 to 60 percent of cardiac arrests happen on account of pure exhaustion.
Now, since obesity is linked with mental stress and heart diseases, both American and British researchers are trying to draw some parallel between exhaustion and obesity. June Stevens, one of the co-authors of the research claims that it is this feeling that leads to weight gain and weight gain to heart attacks.
The study was conducted on as many as 13,727 white and African-American women and men falling within the age bracket of 45 to 64 years. Their weight was measured as per their heights and the volunteers were also asked to fill a questionnaire related to fatigue, sleep, exhaustion, etc.
Higher Exhaustion Leads to Weight Gain
Results showed that heavier people had higher levels of exhaustion. 3 to 6 years later it was also seen that white men and women had gained more weight on account of high levels of exhaustion as compared to Afro-American population.
Researchers are quiet wary about the cultural differences and their association with weight gain. Even then, it was found that those people who were already heavy seemed to gain more weight with time. The study also revealed that white women were almost 34 percent more likely to gain weight on account of vital exhaustion as compared to white men who were 35 percent more likely. Evidence collected suggested that white women were gaining weight at the rate of 5 percent and more of their initial body weight.
Reverse Effect: Obesity Leads to Exhaustion
June says that it could be working the other way, that is, weight gain causing exhaustion. Researchers opine that if the connection is well established between exhaustion and weight gain then it will be easier to administer effective long-term weight loss programs, to reduce the levels of exhaustion and limit weight gain as well.
Obese people give verdict that their uncontrolled weight gives them no peace at all thereby propelling their stress and anxiety to a level where they feel hopeless and disabled to take control of their health.
Researchers of this study claim that “exhaustion, obesity and exhaustion“ is a vicious cycle difficult to arrest with one leading to the other. Almost 5.5 million adults above the age of 18 years in Canada are expected to be obese as per recent statistics.
Not just Canada, reports suggest that obesity is taking the globe by storm. There is therefore an immediate need to promote healthier eating patterns, lifestyle and habits that include loads of exercise ad activity in people’s lives.

In my opinion, there is a bit of logic that exhaustionmay cause obesity. An exhausted person is inactive, probably he becomes idle. No exercises, no physical activities. Oh boy those are sure ways to obesity. I like your article and the information contained. Obese people please take not of the above article. It will surely help you.
Exhaustion has zero correlation with obesity. NONE. If a person is a lazy, then minor amounts of physical exersion will exhaust the person. Obesity is the result of a long term behavioral pattern of little exercise and ad libitum feeding on comfort foods. It is time to WAKE UP, and understand that frozen pizza, potato chips, and watching television leads to being morbidly FAT. And that being fat may lead to your death. People may lie, but the (highly correlative) data does not deceive. Eat smaller portions at meals, and get off your butt three time a week. Save your own life.
An exhausted person is not a lazy person. In fact, they suffer from overcommittment. An overcommitted person works 24/7/365 (paid or volunteer). An exhausted person has high effort with low to no rewards and thinks that if they just try harder, learn more, etc. then their effort will be rewarded (reward as defined by the individual). Food does two things. One, it continuously supplies the body and brain with energy (food as a stimulant). Second, it helps in coping with the physical effects of frustration (food as an agony reliever). One quite literally has to quit whatever it is they are trying to accomplish, period, or order to get better.
