Leanness is also called Thinness. The Ayurvedic term for leanness is Kryshata or Karshya. According to Sushrutha, leanness and fattiness of the body depends on rasa dhatu. Ayurvedic View of Leanness
This disease is a consequence of a number of facts –
- A diet of dry food, lack of nutrition and over exerting the body and mind.
- Heredity, old age and prolonged illness also add to this condition.
Ayurvedic Herbs for Treatment of Leanness
- Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) — This herb adds weight to the body.
- Bala (Sida cordifolia) — This herb is effective in cure of problems like luecorrhea, polyurea and monoplegia.
- Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) — It is a traditional cure for urinary and bilious problems. The herb helps in bringing the mind in a state to eat and digest the food properly. These factors assist in gaining weight.
Some other Ayurvedic home remedies are as follows:
- Body Massage — Regular body massage with coconut oil in summer, sesame or mustard oil in winter can cure leanness.
- Almonds — Almond dessert should be taken 3 to 4 times daily.
- Musali — Ground Musali can be boiled in milk and taken twice.
- Mix together the juices of spinach, carrots and turnips and take approx. 100 ml twice.
- Patient is advised to develop a carefree attitude and sleep soundly.

- Debilitated and undernourished appearance along with general body weakness.
