Marma chikitsa is one of the important aspect of ayurvedic treatments. It was originated 5,000 years ago. Marma chikitsa is more related to Kalarippayattu, which is a form of martial art in the state of Kerala, India. This therapy has various benefits such as dislocation and out of shape of bones. Marma chikitsa relies on body energising to relieve stress related diseases and occupational illnesses.
In this process, the therapy relies on 108 sensitive and subtle energy points. These are referred to as 108 marmas. The therapy opens the energy releasing channels in the body, also called Strotas. Among 108 marmas, 12 marmas are highly critical and are called Padumarma. If any of the points are unknowingly injured, it would result into death. Rest of the marmas are called Thodu marmas, which are not as serious as Thodu marmas. Negative shock can be applied to overcome a shock to marma. Different medicinal oils are used for massaging in this therapy. Marma massaging is also called Thirummu chikitsa or Thirummal.
Marma chikitsa is a therapy which also allows a person to obtain a sharp mind, better composure, mental alertness and natural resistance. This therapy is followed only in Kerala state of India.
