Piles are also called Haemorrhoids. These are bluish small swellings situated either outside or inside the anus. It contains enlarged blood vessels, which is commonly called external piles and internal piles. When the problem of piles is associated with bleeding, it is called bleeding piles.
The veins of anal region become swollen or varicosed when a patient has problem of piles. It happens in both the cases of external and internal veins in the anal area. Constipation is the key feature of all kinds of piles.
Ayurvedic Treatment of Piles
Following are some of the ayurvedic treatments of piles –
- Abhayarishta — It is an oral liquid preparation useful in relieving constipation. 30 ml of medicine dissolved in equal amount of lukewarm water should be taken before going to bed.
- Kasisadi taila — iron sulfate is its main ingredient. It relieves pain and checks bleeding. It is used externally.
- Nagakesara — It stops bleeding from the anal region. The medicine is obtained from the flowers of Nagakesara plant, which is dried and made into powder.
- Arsha Harivati — The medicine is a common herbal- mineral compound recommended in ayurveda. 2 pills should be taken for 40 days twice daily with warm water or some butter milk. This provides great relief from piles.
Other Ayurvedic Remedies for Piles
- Sesame seeds — Sesame seeds poultice can be externally applied over bleeding piles. It can also be taken internally in oral form. Sesame seeds can be taken in the measure of ½ tea spoonful with some butter.
- Radish — It is a useful treatment for piles. The hot poultice of dry radish is a good application in non- bleeding piles. Radish juice is helpful in piles treatment. 60 to 100 ml of radish juice mixed well with little bit of salt should be taken twice a day, daily for 40 days.
- Hareetaki — It is also called Harad. It is a good treatment for constipation and piles. The decoction of fruit peel of harad is taken.
- Dried ginger — It is very useful in piles. It should be taken 30 to 50 ml daily.
Types of Piles
There are 3 types of piles –
- External piles — There is a severe pain, but no bleeding.
- Internal piles — There is a discharge of dark blood.
- Bleeding piles — It is associated with excessive bleeding on bursting of vessels.
Causes of Piles
Following are some of the causes of piles –
- Lack of exercise.
- Sitting over hard seats for longer periods.
- Prolonged constipation because of poor dietary habits.
Because of all the above factors, much force is required to pass the small hard stools. This applied pressure leads to congestion in the blood vessels articulation inside the anal tissues. Slowly, the blood vessels grow in size and lead to piles formation. If the problem of constipation is prolonged, it leads to second degree or third degree piles.
